2-Year-Old Brain Damaged After Teen Babysitter 'Slammed Head Against Wall For Stealing Sweets'

A 2-year-old suffered brain damage after her head was slammed against a wall by a teenage babysitter - for stealing sweets.

Gia Faye was allegedly beaten the 16-year-old childminder in Brownsville, California.

The boy, known to the family, said the toddler was playing with a toy when she should have been asleep and then stole a sweet after he had taken it off her.

He explained to officers that he was trying to discipline girl, and later confessed to 'slamming her against the wall'.

Gia was unresponsive when emergency services arrived after hitting her head on the edge of the wall.

She required emergency brain surgery, which took three hours, as her brain moved after the blow.

A blood clot was also removed and medics had to remove half her skull to make room for the swelling.

The babysitter is being held in a juvenile detention centre after he was arrested on suspicion of child abuse.

At the time of the assult, the teenager was watching and three of her siblings, all under five-years-old.

Jessica Lamar, Gia's mum, said she has known the teenager for four years.

He moved in with the family when his own kicked him out.

Jessica said: "I forgive him. I'm not going to hold a grudge against him. He's a young boy. He made a mistake."

The devastated mum has set up a GoFundMe page for help with Gia's care.
